Nightbreed - The Director's Cut (1990) ***

Even in the new director's cut, Clive Barker’s Nightbreed (1990) is a hodgepodge. The pacing is a mess, the acting is inconsistent, the tone is all over the place, the Danny Elfman score feels out of place (and sounds a bit too much like most of his other scores), and the backstory never really feels fully fleshed out. That said, the makeup jobs are fun, there's some great imagery, and it's inventive. I need to re-read the 1988 novella that it's based on, 'Cabal'.
