Erica Putis "The Girl Of The Song" (2017) ***1/2

Image
The Girl Of The Song  (2017) is a fun fantasy adventure book for all ages. Fans of Labyrinth , The Dark Crystal   and The Neverending Story should be very pleased with Erica Putis'  short novel, one filled with magic and life lessons. My only complaint is that it's too short - I wanted more details about the various characters that the lead character Opal encounters, as well as the other world where she meets them. Here's to hoping for more stories from Erica  in the future.

Barton Fink (1991) ****1/2

Coen s' Kafka esque creation, crafted to (near) perfection.

City Of The Living Dead (1980) ****

Guts 'n ghouls 'n drills 'n maggots.

Rainer Maria "S/T" (2017) ****1/2

I love this album so much. It somehow manages to perfectly channel previous albums such as A Better Version Of Me  (2017) and still feel fresh and exciting. RM   doesn't reinvent the wheel on ' S/T '  but rather they deliver a rock solid rock album, with hints of The Breeders , Sleater-Kinney  and Mazzy Starr . I can't wait to see them live in September (the first time I will have since 2001, I believe).

The Fly II (1989) ***

Logan Lucky (2017) ****

The   'bergh   is back and as awesome as ever. A southern fried Ocean's   with hints of Out Of Sight  (1998). Logan Lucky   (2017) was so much damn fun—the best Elmore Leonard -esque film made since he passed.

Raising Arizona (1987) ****1/2

John Waters "Shock Value" (1981) ****

Incredibly entertaining memoirs by one of our true  "national treasures" (an overused term).

Blow-Up (1966) ****

The New Centurions (1972) ***1/2

10 Rillington Place (1971) ****

Don't Look In The Basement (1973) *1/2

Very bad film.

The Girl From Rio (aka The Seven Secrets Of Sumuru) (1969) ***

A decent  Bond / Barbarella / Diabolik   knock-off with some fun production/costume design but it's a bit too meandering and goofy to be a true cult classic and the low budget really shows at times.
