Hara-Kiri: Death Of A Samurai (2011) **1/2

A let-down, overall. As someone who wasn't as enamored with 13 Assasins (itself a remake of a film, which was essentially a cheapie version of Seven Samurai) as everyone on the face of the planet seemed to be, I've come to realization that I'm just not that into Takashi Miike.

Sure, it was cool to be into Ichi The Killer for it's bonkers style 10 years ago, and Miike has made some decent-great stuff, but I just don't get excited about him the way a lot of people do.

In the case of this film, another remake of the excellent Harakiri (1962), it's shot beautifully and has some nice moments, but essentially adds NOTHING to the original film's tale. It's the same damn story, played out the same damn way. Except it's incredibly boring at times, most likely because I've seen it played out better before.
