The Thing (1982) *****

Image
"You gotta be fucking kidding..." "I dunno what the hell's in there, but it's weird and pissed off, whatever it is." " There's nothing more I can do, just wait... This is R.J. MacReady, helicopter pilot, US outpost # 31 ." "I mean it." "I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time, I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!"  "Yeah, fuck you too!"

Stake Land (2010) ***1/2

Better than expected. Really enjoyed this.

The Crow (1994) ***1/2

I still enjoy this movie a lot.

Tropic Thunder (2008) ****

"But this head movie makes my eyes rain." "Dadgummit, blamtucky, I ain't reprogrammin' a VCR!"

Cape Fear (1991) ****

I don't think I ever quite realized the level of Hitchcock homage going on in this film. This has always been one of favorite Scorsese films and favorite films in general - it just never gets stale for me. Some really striking shots, fun/interesting dialogue, atmospheric/impressionistic matte paintings and one of the most uncomfortable scenes (supposedly ad-libbed) with an actress portraying a minor in a mainstream film that I can think of. Top 10 Horror Films (1990–Current) Scorsese homage to De Palma? "Ooh, ooh, I got the all-over fidgets on that one." "Well, pardon me all over the place!" Illeana Douglas   <3

Trainspotting (1996) ***1/2

I think Danny Boyle is a bit overrated, but this is still an enjoyable film. Though all the main characters are pretty pathetic.

Maniac Cop (1988) ***1/2

"You don't smile."  "Must of partied it up good in here." "You wanna see the pretty pictures?" "Fucking A, I'm a cop. What the fuck are you?" "Fuck you."

More Brains! A Return To The Living Dead (2011) ***1/2

The Thing (2011) **1/2

The Thing (1982) is my favorite horror film and one of my favorite films ever. This new prequel/remake didn't offend me, but didn't really bring anything new to the table. My expectations were low and they were met.

Cul-de-sac (1966) **** [CC Night #14]

3 reasons to see this film:

Peter Gabriel "New Blood" ****1/2

Image
Love the song choices . Love the interpretations. I actually like this better than Scratch My Back .

The Misfits (1961) ****

Image
"A kind man can kill." "No, he can't."

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) ****

Image
"Well, makes you look like an ass is what he does, Ed." "Thank you, Grace. I think you're wrong." "Oh, he's very popular, Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude." Crush.

The Pee-wee Herman Show On Broadway (2011) ****

Popcorn (1991) **1/2

Definitely a movie to see with an audience, as it straddles the line between "so bad it's good" and "so bad it's bad", mostly leaning toward the latter...

Jackie Brown (1997) ****1/2

Cormac McCarthy "All The Pretty Horses" (1992) *****

Image
Just gorgeous.

Hanna (2011) ***1/2

Really cool flick. Fantastic score by The Chem Bros !

Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) *****

My favorite film of all time. P.W. - loner, rebel "I got some new items you might be interested in." "Fruit, please." "Fork over the money, Bux ton ." "Is there something you can share with the rest of us Amazing Larry?!" "The Alamo! In...the basemenT." "I got a real bad temper !" "There was this sound...like a garbage truck...dropped off the Empire State Building." "I'm all alone. I'm rolling a big doughnut and there's this snake wearing a vest..." "C'mon Simone, let's talk about your big 'but'." "A- doe -be." "Speck!" "I say ya let me have him first." "Tequila!!" "Now! Now! " "You're gonna burn in hell!" "I don't need to see it. I lived it."
