DB Mix Series 11 - Rainbow Collection
For the fourth year in a row, on Bryan's birthday (and because it's the 16th day of the month, part of the DB Mix Series tradition), we've got two sweet new mixes for you! Read on to fill your ear and eyeholes with DB Mix Series 11 – Rainbow Collection!
For those unfamiliar with these music challenges—my cousin Bryan and I alternately choose a concept, we each choose the appropriate number of songs (from our MP3 collections), make a playlist, share with each other, then I mix the playlists, design the album art, and share with everyone! You can check out the previous DB Mixes here.
The concept this time was chosen by Bryan—20 songs with colorful titles. His criteria were: album tracks only (no live, compilation tracks or b-sides, etc.), no using the same color twice (though different "hues" were fine), and no using the same artist twice. As you can see from the tracks we both chose, we had to get creative with a few of them to reach 20 songs (for instance we allowed the word "color/colour" once each and I used the Boards Of Canada track "Roygbiv").
To recap our main rule—we never tell each other which songs we are going to pick, so the others' mixes are a surprise. We happen to have a lot of the same artists/songs in our respective (and large) music libraries and we often share artists/songs, so sometimes we choose the same songs or artists for these mixes.

Bryan's mix has the distinction of his first seven tracks representing the ROYGBIV acronym and my mix has the cool coincidence of three artists having a color in their name. We managed to get through another series of mixes without either of us choosing any of the same songs (or artists!), though Bryan told me he almost picked the Roxy Music and Devo tracks that I did. As always, it's fun when each mix is unique and when we both choose a few artists and/or songs that the other is unfamiliar with. Hopefully there are some new-to-you tracks in both our mixes as well—please enjoy and share!
