Primal Scream (1986) **1/2
Regional sci-fi horror neo-noir garbage (and I'm here for it). Primal Scream (1986) is one of those super low budget efforts that I really appreciate, but which is desperately in need of more thrills and better editing. It's never boring exactly, only because it's so scattershot and difficult to comprehend, but, while it's actually fairly competently shot, the poor acting and the staging (among other things) make this a really unintentionally (I think?) funny film. Honestly, it plays like an early '80s porno with (almost) no sex. Or like a George A. Romero/Roger Corman mashup with half the talent (it also reminded me a bit of John Carpenter's Dark Star (1974) in some of the early scenes). Take all that as you will, and if you ever give PS a watch be sure to do so with friends that like wacky nonsensical movies.
