Heat (1995) ****1/2
A masterful cops and robbers drama with incredibly engaging (and deeply flawed) characters, a stupendous cast, indelible performances, choice dialogue that will stick in my brain for life, and a few action set pieces that will do the same, Michael Mann's Heat (1995) is simply one of the best heist movies ever made. It presaged the many crime TV series which drew from its influence and probably would have worked even better had itself been stretched out to six hour-long episodes, but it remains a near-perfect film.
