The Old Dark House (1932) ***1/2

I wasn't very impressed with James Whale's The Old Dark House (1932) when I first watched it nearly ten years ago (my original review). A decade later, I liked this gothic horror comedy much more, though I don't know if I would go so far as to say I loved it. I did enjoy the humor more on this go around, as well as the actors, but what I really appreciated was the dynamic camerawork and the cinematography. I still think TODH lacks a certain level of excitement and I like it the least of the Whale pictures I've seen, but I recognize its influence and I'm glad I revisited it.
