Sudden Death (1995) ***1/2 [Hyams UHD Double Hit Pt. 2]

While it's undeniably Die Hard (1988) (review) in a hockey rink, Peter HyamsSudden Death (1995) simultaneously serves as a fun, slick action flick and a quasi-parody of the genre. While the baddies aren't nearly as charismatic or memorable as its inspiration, Powers Booth does make a delicious scoundrel. JCVD is no Schwarzenegger or Stallone either, but "The Muscles from Brussels" carries the picture just fine. The film ruthlessly dispatches civilians and villains alike and Hyams keeps it exciting through his own expert cinematography and the use of deft editing to convey the ticking timebomb of the game clock.
