Night Train Murders (1975) ***
Aldo Lado's Night Train Murders (aka Last Stop On The Night Train aka Late Night Trains) (1975) is not a pleasant ride. This 50-year-old Italian take on Ingrid Bergman's The Virgin Spring (1960) (review) and Wes Craven's The Last House On The Left (1972) is a disturbing watch (as is any rape-revenge film), undoubtedly exploitative but very well-made. I'm not a huge fan of Craven's film, but in some ways Lado's (though full of highly implausible plot points) is superior—offering a bit more sociopolitical context and better cinematography.
