The Devil's Sword (1984) ***1/2

The Devil's Sword (1984) is a cheapo, bizarro Indonesian martial arts fantasy flick featuring an insatiable underworld queen, crocodile demons, decapitations, hand lasers, tasty insults, a strange, downbeat synth score, and, of course, the titular weapon. In other words, awesome.

The Transformers: The Movie (1986) ****

Nostalgia can be a four letter word, but this movie is intrinsically wrapped up in my childhood. The Transformers: The Movie (1986) is a schizophrenic mess of a film, but one that, if it hit at the right time in your life, will always be meaningful, fun, and transformative (sorry, had to). The animation is gorgeous, the soundtrack (and score ) kicks ass, and the assemblage of voice actors is impressive. Happy 40th to The Movie and  R.I.P. Peter Cullen . Remember: you got The Touch and you can win if you Dare !

Muppet Treasure Island (1996) ***1/2

The Dark Half (1993) ***1/2

George A. Romero 's The Dark Half (1993) is an underrated (and faithful) Stephen King adaptation with a memorable and fun dual performance by Timothy Hutton , impressive cinematography, and a wonderfully mysterious score by the always excellent Christopher Young . "You are disturbing the peaceful mood I'm in.  You are disturbing the peaceful frame of mind I'm in.  You are disturbing my peaceful frame of mind." George A.
