Death Laid An Egg (1968) ***
Death Laid An Egg (1968) is a very surreal early giallo that benefits from an odd, discordant score, attractive actors, and trippy cinematography/editing. The plot is convoluted as hell but the story actually has a decent sociopolitical bent about farmers and the class system (though absent is any real comment about the conditions of animals in factory farms).
DLAE works as a weird drama but it worked less so as a giallo for this viewer—despite all the good aspects I was a bit disengaged. I found myself wanting the more exploitative elements to be, well…more exploited.
