Free Fire (2016) ***

Ben Wheatley's Free Fire (2016) is quite simply a rollicking good time, devoid of politics or any deep meaning. It's a pure genre picture with archetypal (or perhaps stereotypical?) characters, a great cast, and it's lots of fun. The humor comes from the disreputable (yet oddly charming) personalities that populate its single location. The action isn't always the most cohesive but the brisk pace and lean running time make up for its shortcomings (including feeling a bit like Reservoir Dogs (1992) lite).
