Zombi 3 (1988) **1/2

Zombi 3 (1988) is pure shlock but it hits the spot, if you're in the mood for a cheapy zombie flick. Full of zany shit and crazy gore, it also features a threadbare plot, very bad (though entertaining) acting/dialogue, and inconsistent undead speeds/motor skills. The film liberally borrows from Dawn Of The Dead (1978) (review)—aka Zombi, the film which Lucio Fulci's Zombie (aka Zombi 2) (review) is the in-name-only sequel to, which in turn gave this in-name-only sequel its nameDay Of The Dead (1985), The Crazies (1973) (review), The Return Of The Living Dead (1985) (review), Nightmare City (1980), and others, I'm sure. There is much debate as to the amount of footage that Fulci actually shot for Z3—as opposed to Bruno Mattei and Claudio Fragasso (who also wrote the story), both of whom directed scenes uncredited—and the reasons why he left the production. The film that ensued from this fragmentation works on a certain level, but it's still a mess.
