The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari (1920) ****1/2
The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari (1920) is a pioneering film in many regards: the famously askew set pieces, the unreliable narrator, the mad doctor, rooftop chases, the themes of duality, authority, conformity, and much more. Caligari is a masterpiece of Expressionism and the influence of this nearly 103 year old silent picture on the horror and psychological thriller genres—as well as film noir style—is undeniable.
