Out Of The Blue (1980) ****1/2

An intimate and anarchic portrait of a self-destructive family, Dennis Hopper's Out Of The Blue (1980) is a beautiful, brutal, and heartbreaking film directed by a true American iconoclast. OOTB is fueled by punk spirit and catapulted by a mesmerizing and authentically tough performance by the one of a kind Linda Manz. Manz perfectly captures the deep sense of loneliness and search for self of a teenage girl growing up in a tumultuous home life. An unsettling and powerful experience. It's better to burn out than to fade away.
