The Rape Of The Vampire (1968) ***1/2

Jean Rollin’s The Rape Of The Vampire (1968) introduced many of the director’s trademark themes, images, and locations which he would revisit often throughout his filmography. The loose, jazzy quality of his debut feature gives off very distinctive 1960s vibes. The film does ramble a bit but remains quite entertaining throughout. Its scattershot nature is no surprise given that it was actually two films pieced together. Nevertheless, there’s plenty of striking shots and enticing gothic tableaux to enjoy.
