Days Of Heaven (1978) ****1/2
Terrence Malick's Days Of Heaven (1978) is one of those films where literally almost any frame could be considered a work of art. The painterly "golden hour" cinematography by Néstor Almendros and Haskell Wexler is enrapturing. The improvisational style—including one of the most unique voiceovers in any film, courtesy of the singular Linda Manz—blankets the picture in a dreamlike quality. Ennio Morricone's gorgeous score is the icing on this cinematic cake (which is more like a full-course meal).
