The Banshees Of Inisherin (2022) ****
The Banshees Of Inisherin (2022) is exactly my brand of slow, dry, macabre, mythical, absurdist, existential, Shakespearean black comedy. The power trio of director Martin McDonagh and actors Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson manage to best their earlier team-up In Bruges (2008) (review). Both intimate and grand, Banshees is a wickedly funny and sad ponderance of friendship, quibbles, loss, malaise, the fragility of ego, and the lengths to which humans will go in their stubbornness.
