The Lost Boys (1987) ***
I never realized before that Richard Donner executive produced The Lost Boys (1987). It shows. While TLB is a Joel Schumacher film, it still feels like The Goonies (1985) (review) of vampire films. It's fun, quotable, and it has a good soundtrack, but it's also goofy, suffers from thin character development, and has never completely won me over. I prefer the darker tone of Kathryn Bigelow's neo-Western fang banger Near Dark, released a few months later the same year.
