The Italian Job (1969) ***1/2

The Italian Job (1969) is a bit uneven, is pretty goofy, and it takes its time getting to its climax but what a climax. The stunts and car chases (coordinated by one of the greats, Rémy Julienne) in the final third are incredibly thrilling and entertaining. Michael Caine oozes charisma, Douglas Slocombe frames everything beautifully, and Quincy Jones provides a memorable soundtrack to this fun and quotable heist film with a ridiculous but perfect ending.

Recommended for fans of Bullitt (1968), Ocean's Eleven (1960), and The Taking Of Pelham One Two Three (1974) (review).
