Jade - Director's Cut (1995) ***1/2
William Friedkin's Jade (1995) certainly lacks the cohesion of Paul Verhoeven's Basic Instinct (1992) (review) and the bombast of Showgirls (released just a couple of weeks prior) (review)—both also written by Joe Eszterhas—but it's a stylish and kinky thriller with a great cast, an excellent score by James Horner, and one of Friedkin's brilliant and inventive car chases.
