The Golden Child (1986) ***

Some of the jokes don't land, the characters are underdeveloped, the editing is a bit wonky at times, and the finale falls a little flat, but Michael Ritchie's The Golden Child (1986) is a fun Eddie Murphy fantasy action adventure vehicle, the score is catchy, the stop motion animation and matte paintings are charming, and the (underused) Charles Dance is always a joy as a villain.
