Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil (2010) ***

Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil (2010) is a silly and fun little horror comedy. It approaches its material in the same way that Shaun Of The Dead (review) did 6 years prior (basically a rom-com with horror elements), but it's not the slam-dunk that that classic is (a lot of that has to do with Edgar Wright having a much stronger and bolder visual style).

Still, T&D is a definite crowdpleaser and there are admittedly many laugh-out-loud moments. It's hard to deny the charm of the titular lovable hillbillies but there's certainly plenty of cliches abound (some playfully subverted, some not). The film has a very strong first half and stalls out a bit here and there in the second, it gets a little too cute for its own good, nor do I find it is as clever as it wants to be, and the villain is pretty weak, but it is an enjoyable romp nonetheless.

Recommended for fans of Cabin Fever (2002) (review), Hatchet (2006), and What We Do In The Shadows (2014) (podcast where I discussed that film here).
