Yojimbo (1961) ***** [Kuro-fune CC UHD Double Feature Pt. 1]
Mischievous, playful, and endlessly entertaining, brimming with humor, pathos, and violence. Akira Kurosawa's pop art Western Yojimbo (1961) may not be his best film, but with its brisk pace, jaunty score, and a marvelous performance by the gruff, laconic, nonplussed Toshirō Mifune it's my favorite of the director's work. Sergio Leone's classic remake, A Fistful Of Dollars (1964) (review), popularized the "Spaghetti Western."
