The Tripper (2006) **1/2
I had no idea this movie existed and I had no idea that a second movie existed with both Paul Reubens (very funny here, R.I.P.) and Fishbone in it (!)—the other being 1987's zany blast Back To The Beach (review).
David Arquette's sole solo feature directorial outing reminds me a lot of William Lustig's Uncle Sam (1996), except it's not quite as competently made but it does actually have some decent gore. There's also another (unintentional?) Lustig connection where the bathroom stall scene from his classic 1980 film Maniac (review) is basically reenacted with porta potties.
The setup, characters, and execution of The Tripper is pretty standard slasher stuff, the political angle is sloppy but amusing, and the picture suffers from the flashy mid aughts style of filmmaking but it has a good cast and remains fun throughout.
