The Mummy (1932) ***1/2 [Universal Monsters Double Feature Pt. 1]

Karl Freund's The Mummy (1932) drags at times and it's obvious that not a frame of film was shot in Egypt, but it's bolstered by great performances from the inimitable Boris Karloff and the striking Zita Johann, strong and moody chiaroscuro cinematography, and wonderful monster makeup via Jack Pierce. One of the best of the classic Universal Monsters movies.
