Mystery Men (1999) ***
Mystery Men (1999) is a pretty silly movie and not all of its humor lands, but it has a stellar cast and the production and costume design is outstanding. This comedic outcast version of Watchmen (1986–87) features an amalgam of styles and influences that pop onscreen. It’s overlong and a bit undercooked, but it’s fun and it features Paul Reubens and Tom Waits which gives it an instant advantage.
Recommended for fans of Batman Forever (1995) (review), Batman & Robin (1997) (review), Tank Girl (1995), and Austin Powers (1997).
