The Desperate Hours (1955) ****

William Wyler's The Desperate Hours (1955) is a taut home invasion thriller with strong performances and noir-centric cinematography. The polar opposite of Wyler's previous film, 1953's Roman Holiday (review), TDH showcases the director's mastery of packing drama and tension on screen. Humphrey Bogart comes full circle in a role that bears striking similarities to his character from The Petrified Forest (1936), another excellent crime thriller and the one that brought Bogie recognition.
