Prime Cut (1972) ***1/2
At 87 minutes, Michael Ritchie's Prime Cut (1972) is an economic crime thriller with a ton of style, featuring strong performances from Lee Marvin, Gene Hackman, and Sissy Spacek (in her screen debut), plus a reliably great score by the legendary Lalo Schifrin. The film wastes none of the viewer's time delivering drama, humor, and action (including a memorable chase with a combine and a shootout in a field of sunflowers).
Recommended for fans of Point Blank (1967) (review), The Killers (1964), and Charley Varrick (1973).
