The Dead Zone (1983) ****
A deeply tragic and downbeat psycho-thriller, David Cronenberg's The Dead Zone (1983) is a film that improves with age. Christopher Walken is charming and affective in the lead, the whole cast is terrific, and Howard Shore's memorable, melancholic score perfectly enriches the mood. The style is straightforward and the film has a bit of a TV movie feel but the material is strong enough that TDZ serves as one of the best Stephen King adaptations.
